Charter Business For Sale

When November of 2026 arrives, I will have been guiding for 20 years and it will also mark my 70th birthday. As the saying goes, "time fly's when you're having fun!"  I thought that the date of November 2026 would be a good time to hang up my guiding hat and go do some "fun" fishing.

You can only imagine what it feels like to be running down the river with the sun coming up and the wind in your face. Every day. I often joke that the only real stress I have is if the bait shop is going to have bait that morning. Seeing people catching a fish for the first time, seeing someone catch their personal best, seeing a family of Manatee roll up, or a Salt Marsh Mink come running down to the bank, or a Bald Eagle perched majestically -what a job, huh?

I have met a number of great folks fishing over the years -more than many have become good friends - we've learned about each other's lives and families and joys and sorrows. I fished with young 6-year-old anglers years ago, and now I fish with them and their spouses. We've had some outstandingly great fish catches and unfortunately, we've had a time or two where we struggled. But for the most part, it was always a "great time to be fishing here at Amelia Island!"  I really appreciate the opportunity to get out and fish together. Thank you for letting me be your fishing guide.

I would like to consider selling The Anglers Mark (TAM) as a whole- the boat, motor, trailer, fishing equipment, the Blog Amelia Island Fishing Report, the website domain names, the Amelia Island Fishing Report website, the Newsletter and Email lists and the Facebook page and U-tube sites. Also included would be a Google map with fishing spots and how to fish them and a PDF with fishing tips for each month.

Over the years I have documented in a pamphlet with what I believe can help make a person successful running a Guide Service here at Amelia Island. It touches on the licenses, equipment, training that one would need and is heavy into the branding and marketing of such a business. It includes suggestions for giving quality service and has some boring, but valuable (and serious) information about bookkeeping and recordkeeping. These will be included with the sale of TAM.

I've seen a number of Guide/Charter boat businesses come and go here at Amelia Island. Many are started by folks that "love to fish" - they live and breathe fishing, and they are better anglers than me.  But what they didn't know is that they would still be running a small business. They didn't practice good record keeping. They didn't focus on customer service. They didn't stay in touch with their past customers. And eventually, they're out of the business.

Ideal Candidates:

A Retiree -  I started guiding when I was 50 years old. A retiree that has a 2nd income, who is in pretty good health, works good with people, and likes to be outdoors, or

Someone who has a spouse or partner who has a good income and benefits. It's tough to make it on your own. Having that partner who is bringing in steady income and can keep you on their insurance really helps, or

A Young person still living at home.  A young person can really push to get that trip count up, doing "doubles" and even "triples" and weekends. If they don't have mortgages and kids and insurance to pay they can sock that money away for those lean winter months, or

Someone with a full time job. If you have a full time job that has some flexibility for you to take off and run trips.
